About Your Child
When settling your child into the Kinder Cottage routine we can be flexible and allow them to use their ‘home’ routine while they are getting use to their new surrounds. We will then gradually get them into the same routine as the other children in their group which seems to happen pretty naturally. In saying that our routines are always flexible to allow for the individual dynamic of the group.
All families are asked to provide a spare set of clothes for their child in case of any spillages or accidents. Please provide a sunhat and also sunscreen if your child has sensitive skin, sheets and a drink bottle.
All menus are nutritionally balanced to ensure that children are provided with the recommended daily intake of each food group. Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea are provided. Dietary, cultural and medical needs are also catered for at the centre.
We are always happy to work in with the toilet training you are doing at home in order to achieve this goal as quickly as possible.
Our Parent Handbook has a list of what to bring on the first day. On arrival, an Educator will take you and your child to their group, where your child’s bag will be placed in their locker. Parents/guardians are required to sign their child in upon arrival and sign out at the end of the day. You are welcome to stay as long as you wish. We also welcome you to ring throughout the day to see how your child is settling in.
We request that you keep your child home if they are ill. This helps reduce the risk to other children and Educators. If your child becomes ill during their day at Kinder Cottage, we will ring the parent’s contact numbers on the enrolment form. We ask that you ensure that all we always have your most up to date contact details to avoid any delay.
About Our Centre
Kinder Cottage is located at 38 Armstrong Way, Highland Park, QLD.
Look for the big, beautiful, green building.
We are open from 6:30am until 6:30pm Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year (excluding QLD Public Holidays)
Please note that we close at 6.30pm each evening. Collection after that time will incur late fees of $15 per 15 minutes or part thereof.
We recommend a minimum booking of 2 days per week because this allows your child to settle into a routine more easily and also to establish a better sense of belonging and security. However,we are happy to discuss one day bookings.
We operate an open door policy, where parents and families are welcome into the Centre at any time. We encourage parents to actively participate in the care of their children by becoming involved in and spending time at our Centre.
All of our Educators hold qualifications in Children’s Services and have accredited training in behaviour management. Behaviour management is visited on an individual level with those children who require support / guidance.
We have a clear policy and procedure to support any accidents that may occur at our Centre. All Educators at the Centre are trained in First Aid. Should an accident occur parents will be informed either at collection time or via telephone immediately. Educators also complete an incident form containing full details of the situation and how it was managed and parents are then asked to sign this at collection time.
We follow the Sun Smart program and have an all year round sun policy. Families are asked to provide a sun hat that can be labelled and kept at the Centre for their child. Clothing covering shoulders is required as is a water bottle. Sunscreen is applied before going outside.
All Kinder Cottage Educators require a minimum of Certificate III in Children’s Services or working towards achieving. Each room has a Leading Educator who holds a Diploma in Children’s Services or higher. All educators have successfully gained a Working With Children’s Check and all hold formal certification in First Aid and Asthma & Anaphylaxis.
We have a number of Educators who work part-time – we ask these Educators to take on the additional days/hours wherever possible. This provides continuity for the children as the staff are familiar to them.
Room routines vary depending on the age of the child. Click HERE to find out more about each individual room.
We follow the National Quality Framework and Early Years Learning Framework at the Centre. Our curriculum is a balance of child led and adult intentional teaching and offers children the opportunity to participate in active learning whilst having the support and challenge they need from educators.
Each room offers information about your child’s care and learning for the day in various formats. Here at Kinder Cottage we use a software program called KidsXap to keep you up to date with information and photos of your child’s/children’s day. Simply download the app KidsXap Guardian to have access to your child’s information. Access your child’s complete profile, portfolio, statements, medication history, injury records, attendance records and more, with all information available at your fingertips 24/7. Whether you want to view how many days your child has been absent or you need to check your account statement, you can do so easily from our online web portal or app from anywhere in the world. Our child care software also makes it easy to view and share photo and video content of your child at their child care centre. An option to archive content for storage is also available with a few clicks of a button, allowing you to save precious memories and keep them safe.
Normal fees will apply when your booked day falls on a public holiday or absence due to holidays or illness. We do however offer the opportunity to change your regular booked day if it falls on a public holiday, but only to another day within the same week, and only if space permits. Some absences do not count towards the 42 day Government limit.
A holiday discount is applied to your fees for up to four weeks per financial year providing you complete a holiday form two weeks prior to the holiday absence.
We require two weeks notice in writing for any cancellation or alteration of your enrolment at Kinder Cottager and you must attend on your last booked day in order to be able to still claim Child Care Subsidy otherwise you will be charged full fees after the last day you attended until your last booked day.
